Healdsburg is a small town nestled between four regional wine appellations; the Russian River Valley, Alexander Valley, Dry Creek Valley, and Chalk Hill. With over 100 wineries, tasting rooms, boutiques, and restaurants in a concentrated area, location is everything in this town.

When I arrived at the quaint bed and breakfast where I would be staying, the Hayden Street Inn, it was very late at night and the keys were waiting in the mailbox, along with snacks and wine that was left out for me. This is how all guests are treated who stay at this special home.

This charming & historic Victorian style home is over 100 years old. It has operated as a B&B for over 30 years, making it one of the oldest in town. It has 9 rooms with private baths in each room. The King rooms have a Jacuzzi tub and fireplace in them. There is free wireless Internet, free home-cooked breakfast, and it is located 2 blocks from Town Square. There is also a one-bedroom guesthouse/apartment behind the home with a private yard and private bathroom.

These are the most comfortable beds ever! I even stripped the sheets to see the label on the mattress and pillows. I needed the rest as I was looking forward to three full days of wine adventures!

John Harasty (former chef from Churchill Downs and avid cyclist) & Keren Colsten have been the proprietors for 7 years. I had heard about John’s cooking skills and was excited to try his creations, which did not disappoint. They also offer a social hour with wine and snacks each afternoon so you get a chance to meet the other guests in case they sleep in for breakfast.

They truly put the ‘bed and breakfast’ into bed and breakfast with the most comfortable bed I’ve slept in on the road – and the best breakfast.
