You’ll find Hilton Head in the beautiful low country area of South Carolina. It’s right on the Atlantic Ocean, and beyond being a beach town, it offers a ton of natural beauty, food, and activities. So, it’s no wonder that millions of people flock to Hilton Head every year.

Hilton Head is actually a barrier island that’s just about 42 square miles and is located just off the South Carolina and Georgia borders. It’s a great destination that is especially popular with people who are looking for a truly relaxing place to spend time, let’s take a look.

Hilton Head Golf

One of the biggest draws to Hilton Head is the incredible number of high-class golf courses that dot the area. The area is consistently ranked among the top ten in the country when it comes to golf, so it shouldn’t be a surprise this is a very busy golf hot spot when it gets cold in other parts of the country.

For the best courses try Harbour Town Golf Links, a frequent stop on the PGA Tour each year, as well as the Pete Dye designed Heron Point. For a value pick, head to Hilton Head National.

Hilton Head Island Beach

The other huge draw to Hilton Head are the beaches. This is consistently ranked one of the best family-friendly beach towns in America, perfect if you want a laid back option from the party atmosphere of nearby Myrtle Beach.

One thing to remember is while there are a number of beaches, the public beach access is limited to about half a dozen spots. So, if you want to be closer to amenities head to Coligny Beach Park. There you’ll find nearby restaurants and ice cream parlors. If you’re in the mood for American cuisine, cocktail drinks and live jazz, check out The Jazz Corner. Or how about fresh, authentic Italian food served in a casual environment with a side of wine? Try Michael Anthony’s Cucina Italiana. Before you leave the beach, be sure to stop by Sno Cones by Chris. It’s consistently rated the top dessert place in the area for it’s quality sno cones, great service and amazing waterfront views.

For a more secluded beach, that highlights birds, plants, and nature head to Driessen Beach Park.

More Fun

Hilton Head, South Carolina lighthouse

Now, just like any oceanfront town, there’s a lot more to do in Hilton Head than hitting the beach and play golf. Many people love to take a tour of the historic Harbour Town Lighthouse and Museum. For an activity that is more adrenaline pumping, check out zip lining and the bike trails.

When it comes to food, there are two more things you need to have in Hilton Head; oysters and some traditional low country fair. For Oysters hit up Hudson’s Seafood on the Docks, and for low country, food try A Lowcountry Backyard Restaurant.

Getting There

Hilton Head is serviced by the small Hilton Head Airport, which generally takes quick hops from Charlotte, North Carolina. For other options, Savannah Airport is only about 20 miles away, and Charleston, South Carolina is just under 100 miles away.

While some fly into Hilton Head, many people love making it part of a road trip vacation that typically stretches from Charleston to Savannah. Once on Hilton Head Island, the public transportation is limited, so having or renting a car is your best option for getting around.

Hilton Head is a favorite vacation destination for so many every year. Spending some time there will be something you’ll really enjoy. Now what about you, what are your best recommendations for Hilton Head?
