While it’s widely known as a summer vacation destination, Cape May has more going for it than beaches and boats. Most noteworthy, there’s art, history, and culture aplenty. Here are the sights to see and things to do if you only have a few days in this unique seaside town.

Cape May Lighthouse

Located in Cape May Point, this lighthouse is a must-see for visitors. The lighthouse was built in 1859 and has been open to the public since 1988. More than 2.5 million people have made their way to the top since then.

 Breweries & Wineries

Believe it or not, Cape May is a hot spot for Beer buffs head to 7 Mile Brewery or Cape May Brewery. While wine aficionados sip at Cape May Winery, Hawk Haven Winery, and Jessie Creek Winery.

Nature Center of Cape May

Nature Center of Cape MaySomething that’s perfect for all ages is the Nature Center. The center is designed to provide environmental programming and exhibits that celebrate and educate. A bird-watching deck, theme gardens, harbor views, and sprawling meadows are all part of the relaxing environment.


Historic Cold Spring Village

This living history museum allows visitors to experience day-to-day life in the 19th century, complete with demonstrations and costumed re-enactors. You can explore the village with a guided tour, or take a more hands-on approach with a class or workshop in tinsmithing, pottery, or blacksmithing. Stop by the on-site brewery for a not-so-ancient ale.

Wildwoods Boardwalk

In addition to the¬†museum, a little ways away from Cape May proper is the old-fashioned Wildwoods beach boardwalk. This two-mile, 38-block stretch is packed with shops, restaurants, attractions, and entertainment that offers a little bit of something for everyone, whether they’re in the mood for carnival rides or cocktails.

World War II Lookout Tower

Cape May is home to the last remaining, restorable lookout tower from World War II in the United States, so it’s worth a gander. The tower is outfitted with interpretive panels; and also has a viewing platform at the top that sets the scene for a great photo-op.

Emlen Physick Estate

And finally get a glimpse into Cape May’s past through the beautiful Victorian home of the Physick family, where you can take a guided tour, or wander at your leisure.
