You can get candy just about anywhere, but nobody does it quite like the treat-makers of the south. From Tennessee to Georgia, here are the best places to satisfy your sweet tooth.

River Street Sweets (Savannah, GA)

Since 1973, this downtown shop, with a charming brick facade and red awning, has been churning out cakes, pies, chocolates, and—of course—Savannah’s signature candy, pecan pralines. Are you having trouble deciding? Fear not! Samples are always available within reason.

Goo Goo Shop and Dessert Bar (Nashville, TN)

Get your fix of the retro candy clusters and learn a bit about their history at this Music City institution. In addition to the shop’s namesake, the store has shakes, floats, sweets, and sundaes at its dessert bar. Plus there is bulk candy and Nashville souvenirs.

MoonPie General Store & Chattanooga Bakery (Chattanooga, TN)

Yes, this bakery, which was founded in 1902, is the birthplace of the delicious graham cracker, chocolate, and marshmallow snack that’s known as the MoonPie. The bakery and general store are as old-fashioned as the treats themselves—complete with a soda fountain serving up decadent MoonPie milkshakes.

Wondermade (Sanford, FL)

Touting themselves as “makers of really great marshmallows,” the brand’s flagship store in Sanford, just north of Orlando, specializes in all forms of the ooey-gooey delicacy. From beloved s’mores to hot chocolate, they have you covered.

Savannah’s Candy Kitchen (Savannah, GA)

Giving River Street Sweets a run for its money, Savannah’s Candy Kitchen spans 4,200 square feet and is also known for its pralines. You’ll also find brittle, cakes, pies, popcorn, and nuts. Need a bunch of treats for someone special? The store also specializes in gift baskets.

Southern Candymakers (New Orleans, LA)

Located in the center of The Big Easy’s French Quarter, the family-owned Southern Candymakers has caramels, toffee, pralines, and tortues (the French word for turtle), which are pecan-caramel patties with hand-swirled chocolate. Don’t take our word for it; the store has earned “best candy” honors from the likes of Travel and Leisure and Bon Appetit.
